Hidden Glade, unavoidably, consists of very large images.  Please be patient while they load.

Essential things:

The Electronic
Frontier
Foundation
Not a single computer user can afford not to know about these guys, and the important battles they wage.
Project Gutenberg Free literature for everyone!

Important Internet Things:

JPEG 2000 The newest version of the JPEG standard.  The name should give you some kind of idea how long this has been in the works.  Compression much better then JPEG's, and potentially lossless too!  It is possible that, one day, Hidden Glade will move to this format.
SVG Scalable Vector Graphics.  Another format HG may move to some day.  Like Flash, but non-proprietary, and oh-so-editable.  You can create SVG images in Notepad if you know what you're doing!  You should check into downloading the Adobe browser plug-in.

Really cool things:

Ramble House Former LOADSTAR Managing Editor Fender Tucker publishes the out-of-print and, often, never-published work of Harry Stephen Keeler.  Some think these are among the worst novels ever written, but some prefer to refer to his work as "eccentric fiction."  They sure got that right.
Lockergnome Entertaining, accessible e-newsletter for ordinary users.
Everything One of the flat-out hippest web spots of all time.  My writeups there are all written by user "Milen."  In particular, I hope you check out "What Would Cthulhu Do?"
Slashdot The ultimate geek website.

Comic sites worth a person's time:

Zippy the Pinhead Zow!
explodingdog He's going to destroy anybody who gets in his way
The Parking Lot is Full Not kid-friendly.  For those so jaded that even The Far Side passes beneath their hip radar.
Rat and Guy Has a certain "Dr. Katz"-ish charm to its art style, and has a solid comedic voice.  (As penance for saying that something has a "solid comedic voice," I have been directed to slip on a banana peel twenty times.)
Elf Life Another strip with fairies, although with vastly different context and focus.  Its creator is a confirmed DHB (Decent Human Being).
Shadowfall Science-fiction story realized on the web in a graphic novel format.  (Mature audiences.)
Makeshift Miracle Very well-drawn, and extremely popular even coming out of the gate.  In addition, it seems like it just might touch upon some of the same ideas as Hidden Glade.
Webcomics A large comic directory with many, many listings.  Sorts strips by frequency.
Onlinecomics.net A small, but growing, comic directory.  Sorts strips by genre.  Seems to have some newer things.

Funny.

Brunching Shuttlecocks The most consistently funny humor site on the Internet.
The Onion The funniest site on the Internet.  (Which of these words are not like the others?)

Used to produce the strip (and site):

CorelDRAW! A very reasonable value for the price, especially when you get the Graphics Suite, and considering the frankly idiotic prices Adobe charges for their software, may they writhe in eternal mild discomfort.
The GIMP An even more reasonable value for the price, in this case being free.  Were there only a comparable open source vector and tracing program, and if only my cheapo scanner worked under Linux, and even Corel would not have made this list.
Frontpage Okay, I admit it.  I use, and actually like, Microsoft Frontpage.  I could do all the HTML for the site myself, yes.  But I spend enough time each week working on the strip.  If it makes you feel better, if there were a good open source alternative (and it has to be WYSIWYG) to it I would readily switch over.  Let me know when you find one, 'kay?
